from Die vergleichende Osteologie [The Comparative Osteology]
collected by Christian Heinrich Pander & illustrated by Eduard d'Alton
Eduard d'Alton was a professor of art history at the Prussian Academy of Arts at the University of Bonn. Christian Heinrich Pander was a Baltic German biologist who lived in Latvia and was a member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences, where he was most well known for his groundbreaking studies of trilobites. Their collaboration resulted in Die vergleichende Osteologie [The Comparative Osteology], an extraordinary illustrated guide to animal bones.
